Norton by Symantec
Symantec was originally founded by Gary Hendrix in 1982. In 1984, it merged with C&E software which was headed by Gordon Eubanks and with Denise Coleman as a co-founder. The company’s headquarters is located in 350 Ellis Street, Mountain View, California, U.S.A.; and Steve Bennett serves as its current Chairman, President and CEO.

Among their first products was Q&A. It is described to be a dual purpose software system that was written by the founders themselves in the 1980’s. The Q&A system provided a database as well as a word processor.

It was in 1990 that Symantec merged with and acquired Peter Norton Computer, which was a company that developed different kinds of utilities for DOS. It was during the time of the merger that Symantec introduced its antivirus system called Symantec Antivirus for the Macintosh or SAM, and Symantec Utilities for the Macintosh, or SUM. Those products ended up being quite renowned in the MAC market, and the management decided to further penetrate the antivirus market. In a strategic movie to enter Microsoft, Symantec decided to use the Norton name to become what is now known as the Norton Antivirus. Norton Antivirus became one of Symantec’s most popular products and generated tremendous revenue for the company.
